Calculate required salt from a target salinity %.

Supports %w/w and %w/v modes plus reverse calculation (salt → %).

ප්‍රකාරය
%w/w (weight %)
Salt (g) ÷ (water + salt + additives) × 100
Example: 5% w/w = 5 g salt in 100 g total
Best for scale-based prep and repeatability.
%w/v (weight/volume %)
Salt (g) ÷ solution volume (mL) × 100
Example: 5% w/v = 5 g salt per 100 mL
Volume changes slightly when salt dissolves; treat as an estimate.

Target % → required salt

%
0–30% (0.1 step)
Used only for volume conversion. Any is fine if you measure in grams.

Optional inputs for seawater, extra ingredients, and display units.
%
Used to calculate additional salt.
Used only when entering volume in %w/w.
Additional ingredients (optional)
%w/w adds ingredients to total weight and lowers salt %. %w/v ignores additives for an estimate.
Conversion factors
Edit if your salt differs.

Volume conversion (estimate)
Approximate values based on the selected salt type.
Reverse calculation (salt → %)
Uses the same volume and settings above.
%w/w vs %w/v in one minute
%w/w (weight %)
Salt (g) ÷ (water + salt + additives) × 100
Example: 5% w/w = 5 g salt in 100 g total
Best when you measure by weight and want reproducible batches.
%w/v (weight/volume %)
Salt (g) ÷ solution volume (mL) × 100
Example: 5% w/v = 5 g salt per 100 mL
Best when you manage by volume and need quick estimates.
Volume can change slightly when salt dissolves; %w/v is treated as an estimate.

Can I use seawater or existing brine?
Enter the current salinity in “Initial salinity %”. The result shows how much salt to add. If the initial salinity is higher than the target, you need to dilute instead of adding salt.
I want to see oz instead of g.
Switch the display unit in Advanced settings (calculations are done internally in grams).
I also add sugar or other ingredients.
Add them under Additional ingredients. In %w/w, additives increase total weight so the salt % drops. %w/v is based on salt per 100 mL and treats additives as an estimate.

This page is a calculator only. Food safety, sanitation, and recipe details (temperature control, storage, risks) should be managed separately.
Volume conversions (tbsp/tsp) are estimates. Use weight (g) for accuracy.
