Container Loading Estimator (20ft/40ft/40HQ)

Estimate how many boxes fit in 20ft/40ft/40HQ containers from box size, quantity, and orientation conditions.

See remaining/shortage and required container count in one screen.

How To Use

  1. Enter container type and box outer dimensions.
  2. Set orientation rules and pallet usage.
  3. Optionally enter planned quantity to view remaining/shortage and required containers.
  4. Share assumptions using copy result or share URL.

Sample

40ft with medium cartons
Input: 40ft Dry, box 500x300x200 mm, planned qty 1000, rotate ON, upright OFF, no pallet
Output: max loadable boxes, remaining/shortage, required containers, per-layer count, layers
40HQ with pallets
Input: 40HQ, box 400x300x250 mm, ISO 1200x1000 pallet, pallet height 150 mm
Output: pallet count, boxes per pallet, total loadable boxes

Calculation Method (Estimate)

  • Direct loading: compare floor(Lc/Lb) x floor(Wc/Wb) x floor(Hc/Hb) across allowed orientations
  • Orientation candidates: fixed=1, floor-rotation=2, upright allowed=up to 6
  • With pallets: pallets-on-floor x boxes-per-pallet
  • Required containers: ceil(planned quantity / max loadable)

FAQ

Does it support pallet loading?

Yes. Choose with/without pallet, then select JIS/ISO/EUR/custom pallet specs.

Is this the exact real-world loading result?

No. This is an estimate. Aisles, dunnage, handling constraints, and weight distribution can reduce actual capacity.

Can I change box orientation?

Yes. Set fixed orientation, floor rotation allowed, and upright/side placement allowed.

What internal dimensions are used?

Typical dry container internal dimensions are used as defaults and can be edited.

Can I check weight limits?

Yes. Enter kg per box and max payload to compare gross weight against payload limit.

Notice

  • This tool provides estimates only. Actual results vary by container tolerance, dunnage, aisle, and loading rules.
  • Door opening height can be smaller than internal height. Check door clearance for tall cargo.
  • Use operational and carrier constraints for final loading decisions.
