Dim Weight Calculator
Calculate dimensional weight from package L×W×H and a carrier divisor in seconds.
Compare it with actual weight, show chargeable weight, and work in either cm/kg or in/lb workflows.
What this tool covers
How to use
- Enter length, width, height, and actual weight. Add quantity if you have multiple identical packages.
- Choose the divisor basis, divisor value, comparison scope, and rounding rule.
- Review dimensional weight, actual weight, and chargeable weight.
- Copy the result or generate a shareable URL if needed.
Examples
Metric example
40 × 30 × 20 cm, actual weight 3.8 kg, divisor 5000
Dim weight 4.80 kg, chargeable weight 4.80 kg (dim weight is heavier)
Imperial example
20 × 16 × 12 in, actual weight 25 lb, divisor 139, rounding 1 lb
Dim weight 27.63 lb, chargeable weight 28 lb
Glossary
Dim weight / dimensional weight
A weight-equivalent value calculated from package volume.
Carrier divisor
The factor used to convert volume into billable weight. The value depends on the carrier or service.
Chargeable weight
The weight used for billing after comparing actual weight and dimensional weight.
Formulas
Volume = L × W × HDim weight = Volume ÷ divisorChargeable weight = max(actual weight, dim weight)Rounded chargeable weight = ceil(chargeable weight ÷ rounding step) × rounding step
FAQ
What is a carrier divisor?
It is the factor used to turn package volume into weight. Common examples are 5000 or 6000 in metric workflows and 139 or 166 in imperial workflows. Always confirm the final rule with the carrier you are using.
Can I use 139 even if I measured the package in centimeters?
Yes. Switch the divisor basis to in3/lb and the tool will convert units internally.
What is the difference between per-package and shipment-total comparison?
Per-package comparison takes max(actual, dim) for each package and then sums the result. Shipment-total comparison compares total actual weight with total dim weight.
Will this always match the final invoice?
No. This tool does not include minimum chargeable weight, oversize fees, fuel surcharges, or other carrier-specific billing rules.
Can I calculate multiple package sizes at once?
This page is for a single package profile. If you need multiple box sizes, use the related volumetric weight, CBM, and pallet estimator.
Notice
- Results are estimates. Divisors, comparison rules, rounding, and minimum billable weight vary by carrier and service.
- This tool does not include oversize fees, remote-area charges, fuel surcharges, dangerous goods, customs, or packaging material weight.
- Use your carrier or forwarder rules as the final source for quotations and invoices.
