Orchard Labor and Time Estimator

Estimate crew size and completion time from area, tree count, work type, and throughput.

Use one estimator for pruning, thinning, harvest, bagging, mowing, and spraying, with units and labels that work for orchards around the world.

How to use

  1. Enter area and tree count, then choose the work type.
  2. Set throughput. The tool switches between tree-based and area-based work automatically, and Custom lets you choose the basis yourself.
  3. Enter daily working hours, then add either available workers or target days.
  4. Review person-hours, person-days, crew size, days, tree density, and capacity balance.
  5. Copy the result or share the URL with your team.

Sample cases

Pruning crew estimate

Input

Area 3.0 ha, tree count 1,200, work type Pruning, throughput 50 trees/hour/person, daily hours 8, available workers 3

Output

Total person-hours 24.00, person-days 3.00, 3 workers finish in 1.00 day, tree density 400 trees/ha

Mowing completion-date estimate

Input

Area 2.5 ha, tree count 600, work type Mowing, throughput 0.15 ha/hour/person, daily hours 6, target days 2

Output

Total person-hours 16.67, person-days 2.78, required workers 1.39 (round up to 2), 2 workers are enough for 2 days

Formulas

  • Total labor time (person-hours) = work volume ÷ throughput per person-hour
  • Person-days = total labor time ÷ daily working hours
  • Required workers = total labor time ÷ (daily working hours × target days)
  • Required days = total labor time ÷ (daily working hours × available workers)
  • Tree density = tree count ÷ area

Notice

  • This tool gives a planning estimate only. Real time changes with canopy size, worker skill, terrain, ladder use, and weather.
  • Plan safety management, labor rules, breaks, travel, loading, and cleanup separately.
  • For tree-based jobs, use the actual tree count first instead of relying on area alone.

Frequently asked questions

Should I enter area or tree count?

The work type decides the basis. Pruning, thinning, harvest, and bagging are tree-based. Mowing and spraying are area-based.

Can I get both crew size and days?

Yes. Enter either available workers or target days to back-calculate the other side. If you enter both, the tool also checks the capacity balance.

Can I use it for harvest jobs?

Yes. It works well for tree-based harvest estimates. If you need exact weight-based planning, use a custom basis or another tool.

Can I use it outside Japan?

Yes. Area units include m², a, 10a, ha, and acre. English pages default to acre, so the workflow stays familiar worldwide.
